The Juneteenth Heritage Festival held in Anniston, AL. is a one-day Emancipation Celebration of events that took place on June 19th, 1865 when the State of Texas, the last of the Confederate States engaged in slavery, was made to comply with the Emancipation Proclaimation and end the practice of chattel slavery within it's borders. This was some 31/2 years after the Emancipation Proclaimation had been issued. The Festival is held in Zinn Park in downtown Anniston, AL. featuring live musical entertainment in Urban Music,comedy acts, dance shows, a high school age step competition, the Sundown Gospel Concert, the Hip Hop Block Party, food, arts, merchandise and crafts vendors and kids amusements. Admission is free. 2007 will be our 15th event on Saturday, June 16th (day before Fathers Day).Independent music artists and other entertainers are encourage to submit material for review by following the directions on the website Program page at www.juneteenthanniston.com/Program.html.
